In collaboration with TalTech researchers and experts from the Finnish company One Click LCA, a study for the application of assessment principles for the carbon footprint of construction works in Estonia has been carried out. The purpose of the project was to establish an initial Estonian methodology that can be introduced, tested, and further developed in the Estonian construction sector. The proposed calculation method is based on standard ISO 14040, the European standards for environmental assessment EN 15804 and EN 15978, the European Level(s) framework, and international best practices for carbon footprint assessment.

The method is demonstrated using a simple CO2 calculator which provides an estimate of the life cycle CO2 emissions of construction works. The project was commissioned by the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and co-financed by the RITA programme.
